What you can't get in LA

When Mark and I were in Arizona last weekend, our friends Marc and Marianna took us to the sugar-coated, fried and jelly filled dough mecca; New-Englanders' fond memory of caffeine buzz, belly-bomb breakfast days. Yes, Dunkin Donuts, the mother of all misspelled logos, glowing pink and orange, beckoning you with the warm gooey promise of a stomach ache accompanied by the special satisfaction given only by that unique texture of a Dunkin Donut. It was amazing to smell the Dunkin Donut coffee smell once again. What do they put in that "cream" that goes in the coffee?? It makes it smell pretty unique too. I'm not sure I want to know, but those aromas bring memories like nothing else.
Here are some pictures to capture the special Dunkin Donuts Day. Dave, the owner of this particular franchise, was more than happy to provide us with information on overnighting doughnuts to LA from Arizona. And we were told that he alone has a few clients who do so. My favorites are the chocolate frosted, boston creme, and the raspberry jelly, of course. I never thought I would eat doughnuts ever again, but knowing that there are NO Dunkin Donuts in Southern California made me had to have them. Mark and I brought home some extra doughnuts, and he brought them into work for his co-workers, most of whom are from New England. They were thrilled!

Most people go Ga-Ga over Krispy Kreme, but I'm with you. You haven't really eaten a donut unless it has sunk leadenly to the bottom of your stomach. That's also where I started my caffeine addiction. When I worked at Express one summer, we'd stop there after doing the bank run and get a coffee. Although, since it was at least half cream and sugar, I'm not sure what the caffeine content really was.

I would like a fedex'd donut please. Chocolate glazed or a chocolate cream filled. We have Krispy Kreme out here, but come on. Blech.

Cool, now I know what to get you both for wedding gifts! And now I'm hungry and want a Boston Creme.

P.S. Remember when we were in NYC and they were on every corner (before Starbucks moved in) and we were making up names like Pumpkin Gonads and Dinky Ho'nuts?

P.P.S. DG also has an affinity to DD. We can't get them out here either. On our first roadtrip, on our way to Omaha, NE, DG detoured into North Platte, NE to go to the ONE DD in the entire state. I knew then that he was the man for me. Driving out of our way to get the DD goodness.

Good news, Ladies! Dunkin' Donuts was purchased by a bigger corporation and after a year or so of recharging their marketing and world dominance campaign, they have decided to go "West of the Hudson," so that is good news for us Western-ers. They also are doing away with what Joy experienced in AZ, the dual or tri-shops with a Baskin Robbins. So we all could be devouring gut bombs before you can say "gotta make the donuts" 10 times really fast. Woo hoo!
